Licensed Drivers Program and Registration
Licensed Drivers under the age of 20 can sharpen driving skills; obtain important traffic safety information; and get valuable hands-on experience in dealing with emergency driving situations and/or snowy/icy roads.
The licensed driver program does not replace the state certified driver education program for permitted drivers. Students who did not have the opportunity to take a formal 10 week program before they got their license, will now have the ability to get some important additional training. Students completing the nine hour program will not receive an ODOT certified driver education certificate of completion, but will receive a modified certificate, which some insurance companies will accept for a potential insurance discount.
Program Description
Five hours of instruction with ODOT certified instructors
- One hour of classroom instruction
- Four hours of behind-the-wheel instruction
Four hours of the Deschutes County "Skid Car Program"
- One hour of classroom instruction
- Three hours of driving instruction in the skid car
Scheduling
Our scheduling goal is to complete the students training in a month's time or less. The skid-car program will be scheduled separately by Judy Sumners at Deschutes County Risk Management. Classroom and behind-the-wheel sessions are scheduled individually. At least two students must be scheduled for each classroom and car session.
Program Tuition $295.
